Slab-on-grade is a type of constructive solutions for foundation of buildings produced from plain or casted concrete (reinforced concrete) in the form of the slab that slightly buried into the soils. The slab performs above the subbase and base of sand and broken stone with heat insulation and waterproofing layers. Slab-on-grade is useful in the next situations:
- producing of industrial floors required
- cutting of costs of the civil engineering construction project required and construction site situated in the warm climate
- soils (grounds) problems are existing on the site: waste instead the soils, different types of soils on the building footprint, weakness (incompatible value of load bearing capacity) of soils as a base for foundation and other at the discretion of a designer.
Many different approaches for various concrete types are existing. Slab-on-grade, raft foundation or floating foundation can be designed and performed from plain concrete, reinforced concrete, shrinkage-compensating concrete, and posttensioned concrete.
